Global Meetings Industry Day came back better than ever! The traditional April 8th observation was lost in 2020 due to falling in the midst of the nationwide lockdown. We’re happy to report that our team was able to attend the event again this year and return to one of our favorite venues: Daytona International Speedway! You may recall seeing us there in 2019 for the SEAT Conference when we provided all AV services (including lighting, audio, video, staging, trade show support, etc.) in the many meeting rooms throughout the concourse.
Our Vice President & General Manager Larry Blocker and our Director of Show Services Patrick Brochu represented Media Stage at this year’s GMID, hosted my MPI North Florida Chapter. We’d like to extend our thanks to Chapter President Elizabeth McKenna and her board for all their hard work and coordination.
The one-day event highlighted the impact that meetings have on people, businesses and the economy. An industry that boasts a $2.53 trillion global economic impact is something worth celebrating… especially as it continues to rise out of the challenges from the last year.
The GMID agenda featured exhibitors, raffles, informative presentations, a networking happy hour and a behind-the-scenes venue tour. The keynote speaker, Casey Jones, delivered an emotional witness talk on life, love and hope. He was a passenger on US Airways Flight 1549 that crashed into the Hudson River in 2009 and his testimony of survival left a lasting impact on all those in attendance.
His speech echoed the overlying theme of the event; all the industry professionals who presented focused on planning for risk and crisis in large-scale events, doing so through engaging in hands-on training sessions.
“We were so excited to attend GMID in-person again this year,” said Blocker. “Everyone involved in hosting did a phenomenal job, and it’s always a fun experience being at a unique venue like the speedway. We missed GMID last year, so it was a great feeling to get together with industry peers again.”
Already looking forward to GMID 2022!
