Tropi-call times

People with Cancun sign

Throughout the month of March, our crew was split between two not-so-shabby locations for two different shows. Our team leads and technicians traveled to both Nassau, Bahamas and Cancun, Mexico for different simultaneous productions.

In Nassau, our management staff was booked to work alongside some of the local labor on the island to build an AV set for a high-end awards gala at the Grand Hyatt. This was a four-day affair between pre-production meetings, pre-rig, a full load-in day, rehearsal/show day and a separate strike day.

After attendees were seated for dinner, they enjoyed an awards ceremony followed by a full night of dancing to the tunes of a live five-piece cover band who performed well into the night. Some of the unique scenic enhancements around the room were “live” movie posters with body-painted actors positioned in front of them, a laser lights show and a trapeze artist that we lit from inside a martini glass above the main bar. There was no shortage of James Bond-themed elements from anywhere you looked!

In Cancun, our team produced a large-scale General Session and 11 breakout rooms/areas. The main set of GS displayed one main center projection screen with full stage wash and backlighting effects. We used rear projection for all live imagery, and also implemented a full audio package with a wireless mic complement.

All breakouts also featured video and audio components, with projection screens and push-to-talk mics placed at every station around the U-shaped tables. There were a lot of moving parts and a very extensive schedule on this show, as our crew was there for more than a week!

Stay tuned for our next road adventures coming soon…
